Gucci has been making a massive impact on the fashion scene since last year thanks to work of Alessandro Michele. As Gucci’s new creative director, Michele has managed to resurrect life back into the brand within the last 2 years by creating some of the most highly coveted fashion pieces. In particular the Gucci Dionysus and GG Marmont bags, which are both to die for.
“This Gucci is eccentric, colourful, languid and romantic” – Alessandro Michele.
Recently the Gucci Ace sneakers have been all over my Instagram feed. At first I wasn’t completely sold.
1) Sneakers have never been a staple in my wardrobe.
2) I thought they looked over embellished.
Of course a few months later after my initial thoughts, this happened…
After seeing the Gucci Ace embroidered floral sneakers I had to jump onto the Gucci trend. Better late than never, right? My opinion still stands. I think they’re completely over the top and over embellished. So what won me over? When I first saw the combination of bows and floral embroidery, it was love at first sight. There was no hesitation, I just knew I had to have them.
I was on the hunt for this design and went to Selfridges as my first stop. I couldn’t find them and was told that they didn’t have them in stock. I then decided to try the Old Bond street store where I was unsuccessful again. I couldn’t see them on display and thought that they had been discontinued or even sold out. I reluctantly asked the sales assistant who was kind enough to tell me that they had them in their stock room.
I normally wear a size 4 (UK)/ 37 (EU) but when I tried them on they were too big for me. She recommended that I try half-size down or even a full size down. I eventually ended up purchasing a size 3 (UK)/ 36 (EU), which surprised me but they were the most comfortable fit. She told me that they run quite big so I would recommend trying them in store rather than making an online purchase. I don’t know whether that was just the case for me but it’s definitely worth trying on a few sizes. It’s also important to consider that as they’re made of leather they will stretch so getting the right size is important before making your purchase.
Embroidered flowers and bows? Yes please! The detail on these shoes are on point and you’re definitely getting your money’s worth in terms of quality. These shoes are not exactly the cheapest things in the world but I think the design is something to consider when questioning whether they’re worth the splurge or not.
If you know me well from my Instagram (@rh3a_c) then you know that I’ve been an absolute sucker for luxury shoes recently. I tend to go for something classic when it comes to a luxury purchase because I like the comfort of knowing that they will go with everything. Buying these were definitely a step outside of my comfort zone and although they may not be for everyone’s taste, I don’t regret my purchase one bit.
I absolutely love the alternating foiled snake detail as it adds a nice quirky touch and something unique. I also love how the sneakers have the signature Gucci stripes on either sides. For me the embroidered appliqué completely makes the shoe and adds that modern twist to their classic look.
Although I have a few luxury sneakers, I find that I don’t often wear them. I think I have a tendency to avoid sneakers because I can’t pull myself away from the thought that they look too “sporty” on me. I would describe my style as feminine and classic. However Gucci has captured the casual and feminine look really well in these sneakers. It makes my life easier as I can dress these shoes up and dress them down with something more causal.
Yes, you could call me crazy for buying white sneakers in autumn/winter but they were calling my name! Even though I’ve seen many people rocking these sneakers over the summer, I will be wearing these throughout the winter. That is until it starts to snow and I’ll have to trade my sneakers in for a pair of tall boots! Until that day comes the sneaker trend will be sticking around for a while.
Happy shopping to those who purchase a pair!
