Ever since my impulsive Gucci purchase, the Gucci ace sneakers have constantly been on my mind. Particularly one question…What on Earth do I wear with them? As I mentioned in my previous post I don’t wear trainers that often. Scratch that, that’s a complete understatement. Rarely will you ever and I basically mean NEVER ever see me in trainers. The funny thing is, I have a pair of Chanel trainers, which were given to me from my parents as a graduation gift in January. Fast-forward 11 months later and I have shamefully only worn them *drum roll*…twice.
The fact that I can count the number of times that I’ve worn them on one hand tells you that I am not a “trainer wearing” kind of girl. Instead brogues and loafers are key staples in my shoe collection as they complement my style. As you might have guessed, one of my biggest fears was that I wouldn’t be able to match them with anything in my wardrobe. Initially that was the case but an hour later, my wardrobe transformed into a floor-drobe and I created this look for my day out in Harrods with my sister:
I thought I would keep the colours simple as the Gucci sneakers have every colour under the sun embroidered on them. I went in the “less is more” direction and styled them with a classic blue Oxford shirt and jeans. In my eyes, you can never go wrong with a simple shirt and skinny jeans. I wanted to keep the look casual by wearing a pair of ripped jeans, which I think goes nicely with the trainers. I could have easily complemented the outfit with a leather jacket but I decided to go with something different.
I think adding the structured long coat contrasts the casual look and it keeps the outfit from going too casual. I also added a Chanel brooch to the jacket to compliment the backpack but again to stray away from going too casual. Especially with winter coming, I still want to be able to wear these trainers all year round. I think that the long structured coat is a key piece, which will allow me to do that.
I’m always looking for style inspiration on Instagram so hopefully I’ll be inspired to create more looks with my Gucci ace sneakers.
How do you style trainers in the winter? Or do you think trainers are more of a spring/summer staple?
Let me know, I’d love to hear your thoughts!
