I don’t think it’s possible to go through the festive season without even attempting to wear a red lip. Am I the only one who feels slightly self-conscious wearing one at any other time of the year? However the minute we enter into December my reluctance to rock a red lip shoots straight out of the window.
If you’re anything like me then you’ll be on the hunt for that perfect shade of red. To me a red lip can make an outfit and definitely make a statement. In my opinion, there’s only one way to get that perfect red lip. If you haven’t tried a liquid lipstick, it will change your life. I feel like I rarely ever use my lipsticks because I want something that will last throughout the day. You can gain more precision with liquid lipsticks, which is something you’re definitely going to need when even attempting to put on a red lip. There’s nothing I hate more than seeing a messy red lip bleeding at the edges. Liquid lipsticks dry quickly and become matte on the lips so they’re not going to budge.
With that in mind, I thought I’d share with you some of my favourite red liquid lipsticks from my favourite brands:
Velour Liquid Lipsticks
This warm toned red is nothing short of being an eye turner. It’s got the perfect balance of red with a hint of orange. The colour is vibrant at first when you look at it in the tube. Don’t let this scare you because I would definitely say that it dries down to an ever so slightly darker shade. Although I think this shade is more of an autumnal shade, I still think that it’s a shade that you could still wear during the holidays.
Redrum has got to be my favourite red liquid lipstick in my collection. This blue toned red or cool toned red will make your teeth look whiter, which is always a plus! This shade will suit a lot of skin tones and is pretty universal. For me this shade embodies Christmas and will definitely be over used this month.
This is a special edition shade that Jeffree recently released as part of his holiday collection. It is an absolutely stunning burgundy/dusty red shade with a very subtle gold reflex. If you’re a fan of his popular shade unicorn blood then this shade will definitely appeal to you. The twist of having the gold shift screams Christmas to me!
Dose of Colors
This is another cool toned red shade with a hint of pink. The colour is very vibrant and is described as being a “seductive” red on their website, which I definitely agree with. This might not suit a lot of people simply because of the pink undertones but due to the pigmentation and extreme longevity, this shade is definitely worth looking into.
I absolutely love this shade. It is very pigmented and is described as a “true red” on the website. I would definitely describe this one as another cool toned red. The pigmentation is on point but this liquid lipstick falls short as it can feel very dry. Here’s an article that I found showing how versatile this shade can be on a variety of skin tones. The liquid lipstick does have a sweet scent, which may or may not appeal to everyone but is definitely something to consider before buying.
Liquid Matte Liquid Lipsticks
Heartbreaker is again another classic red shade, which will suit everyone. The shade is very similar to Mary Jo K and Redrum but in terms of the formula, this would be my second choice after Redrum. The colour is just as vibrant as Mary Jo K and again makes your teeth look a lot whiter.
Kat Von D:
Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks
This red is described as a deep “crimson” red but I think it will look very different on various skin tones. I feel like if you’re going to attempt to wear a dark shade like this, there’s no better time than the present! I always go for the deeper shades in the winter because I feel like it’s more acceptable at this time of year. I think this is a great shade to go for if you wanted to go for something dark but not too dark. The shade looks like a lot deeper at first glance than it actually is. To me this leans more towards being a medium-dark red, with a slightly warm undertone.
Just as a side note, I would definitely recommend pairing any of these liquid lipsticks with any neutral eyeshadows. You could even push the boat out a bit and go for a gold shade but “less is more” when it comes to a red lip.
With the exception of the Kylie Cosmetics liquid lipstick, I purchased all of these online from the U.K.:
All three websites are reliable and I didn’t have any problems with my purchases!
I’m hoping to do a post on my whole liquid lipstick collection soon so be sure to stay updated on all of my social media platforms…
