Off-Duty: Keeping It Casual

Hi my loves!

Sorry for the lack of activity on here. I know it’s been about 2 weeks since my last post but I’m hoping to get back on track because guess who’s on annual leave from work? Yes, I have a glorious 9 days off, which has been so long over due it’s almost ridiculous. It’s time to let my hair down (literally) and relax.

I think it’s safe to say there’s nothing I hate more than my work clothes. I don’t have a uniform and I can pretty much wear whatever I want. In my eyes that’s both a blessing and a curse but I’ve managed to set aside a rotation of outfits which are basic as f*ck to keep me going. So when I’m not at work, I jump at the opportunity to dress up as I spend most of my time in clothes that I hate.

My friends and family have often joked around that I don’t know how to do “casual” and definitely not “sporty”. I’ll agree and say that 9 times out of 10, I will always be over dressed (by choice) and you know what? I’m absolutely okay with that! Yes, I can be excessive and dramatic and over the top and overly formal with some of my outfits. Realistically, if I was going to suddenly drop dead I wouldn’t want my last outfit on Earth to be a tracksuit now would I?!

Once upon a time, someone even tried to give me fashion advice and it went a little something like this:

Rhea, why don’t you wear this dress to your brother’s graduation?” (It was a basic ass collared shift dress)

Me: Not a chance, I’d wear that to go shopping in.

…So you get the picture.

If I’m going to do “casual” or “sporty” then I’m going to put my spin on it. I thought I’d challenge all my haters (aka my nearest and dearest) and document it on here.

Here’s to me stepping out of my comfort zone…(No your eyes are not deceiving you, yes I’m wearing a t-shirt and jeans).

One of my newest additions to my closet is this supposedly “cropped” Tommy Hilfiger t-shirt (they sold out in my size so I opted for the next size up). I kept seeing this t-shirt on Instagram and saw it being styled it in so many different ways. I like how it’s something different from your basic plain white tee but also thought it would transition nicely into a great spring/summer look.  I absolutely love the 90’s feel to this t-shirt and of course being a 90’s baby, I couldn’t resist paying homage to my era!

As well as the red accents on this varsity jacket, I fell in love with the embroidery even more. It’s both a bit quirky and playful at the same time that I thought it would pair nicely with a t-shirt and jeans. I could have easily thrown on a long structured coat with this outfit and I would have been in my comfort zone completely. However as I said before, I thought I’d commit to being more experimental with my style this year.

If I wanted to go completely casual I would’ve worn my Chanel sneakers but give me some credit here, I tried! I had to put a twist on the look and so I went with classic black ankle boots.

I hope you like what I’ve put together and hope it inspires you to try the more casual/ sporty style.

I’ll see you all in my next post…

Lots of love,
